November 27, 2011: I trust all had a great Thanksgiving week with fun, food, rest and thanksgiving. God gave us a wonderful pie and praise night with many testimonies that exalted and glorified God. It was a great blessing to all that were in attendance. We have now officially entered into the Christmas season. That means programs, parties, presents and plenty of activities. Yet, the Christmas season can be the best time of the year to share Jesus Christ. There will be many opportunities to talk about Jesus Christ; the season is about HIM! Make sure you put Christmas tracts in the Christmas cards you send out. Use the many Christmas programs and parties that we have here at Troy Baptist Temple to invite your family, friends and associates where they will hear the true message of Christmas, Jesus Christ. And let’s do something special again this year, give a special financial gift in honor to Jesus Christ to your local church. This offering is going toward the new sound equipment that is needed. Let us not forget that Jesus Christ is the reason for the season!

November 20, 2011: The true story is told about a ministerial student in Evanston, Illinois, who was part of a life-saving squad. In 1860, a ship went aground on the shore of Lake Michigan near Evanston, and Edward Spencer waded again and again into the frigid waters to rescue 17 passengers. In the process, his health was permanently damaged. Some years later at his funeral, it was noted that not one of the people he rescued ever thanked him. It is very easy to be unthankful for the things in our lives and it does take thinking to be thankful. One man stated that “a thankful spirit is one of the key distinguishing marks of a Christian, It sets us apart from the world, and it makes us different.” As we enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday let us all be thankful now and throughout the whole year. Make your life a life of thanksliving!

November 13, 2011: Be thankful for all things! Paul made statements like this in several of his letters. In Ephesians 5:20 he states, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  As you know, sometimes this is easier said than done. Last Sunday evening we heard the testimonies of many in our congregation that gave thanks for their salvation. What a blessing it was to have a young man stand up and testify that he had been saved for three days. The Thanksgiving period is a great time to reflect and consider what God has done in our lives over the past year. A week from Tuesday evening we are going to have a Pie and Praise Service. Let us all gather together and express our thankfulness for God’s blessings upon our lives. Don’t forget to give “thanks always for all things.”

November 6, 2011: Choice making and decision making is part of everyday life.  Some of the choices and decisions we make are good or right, while regretfully other decisions we make are bad and destructive. I know that in my own life there have been times when I made the wrong choice or decision and have suffered the consequences of it. That is not fun! We all have been there at one time or another. Some decisions we make are huge while others are small. As pastor, I have counseled with a number of folks who made bad decisions and were suffering as a result. Now they were seeking my advice and help with their regretful decision. Our everyday decision making needs to be saturated with the Word and Wisdom of God. Romans 12:2 clearly instruct us to “transform” our mind by renewing it so “that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” No doubt we all have, or will eventually be confronted with serious decisions. Our decision-making should take into account the Lord’s presence in our life. Today we are going to consider two men (Lot & Abraham) that made important decisions in their lives, one made a bad decision and other made a good, or right decision. Let us learn from their decisions so we don’t make bad decisions that have lasting negative consequences upon our life.
